Detailed Official Notification & Guidelines
WHAT THIS TEST IS (AND ISN'T)
The Bihar School Examination Board is holding a School Librarian Eligibility Test (BSLET, also written as Bihar SLET or Bihar LET) for people who want to become school librarians in Bihar. It is a qualifying test, not a job advertisement. Clear it and you receive an eligibility certificate that you will need when the actual librarian recruitment opens. Reports mention around 5,800 school librarian posts being planned, but that number is expected rather than confirmed, so treat it as a rough guide.
WHO CAN APPLY
- A Bihar resident with a bachelor's degree from a recognised university, with at least 45% marks (reserved categories get a 5% relaxation).
- A Library Science degree such as B.Lib or B.Lib.I.Sc.
- At least 21 years old on 1 August 2026. Upper limits are 37 years (general male), 40 (general female, BC and EBC) and 42 (SC/ST), and BSEB has added a special 10-year relaxation for all categories this time.
HOW TO APPLY
- Open sletregistration.cbrt.co.in, the portal BSEB has named for this test.
- Register with your own mobile number and email, then log in.
- Fill in your personal and educational details exactly as they appear on your certificates.
- Upload your photo, signature and documents in the format the portal asks for.
- Pay the fee online: ₹960 for General, EWS, BC and EBC, ₹760 for SC, ST and PwBD, by debit card, credit card, net banking or UPI.
- Submit, then save or print the confirmation page.
Applications close on 21 October 2026, so don't leave the payment step for the last evening.
KEEP THESE READY
Graduation marksheet and degree, Library Science degree and marksheet, Bihar residence certificate, category certificate (BC/EBC/SC/ST/EWS) or disability certificate if it applies, a photo ID, a passport-size photo, your signature scan, and a working mobile number and email.
EXAM PATTERN
Computer-based test with 150 multiple-choice questions, one mark each, in 150 minutes. Library Science carries 100 marks and General Knowledge 50. There is no negative marking. The Library Science part follows the bachelor's-level syllabus taught at recognised universities in Bihar. Qualifying marks: General 50%, BC 45.5%, EBC 42.5%, and 40% for SC, ST, PwBD and women. If the test runs in several shifts, scores are normalised and eligibility is decided on the normalised score. A raw 76 out of 150 can still miss the 75-mark general cut if normalisation pulls it below 75.
PLANNING YOUR PREPARATION
With no negative marking and about a minute per question, attempt everything. Library Science is two-thirds of the paper, so it should get most of your hours (bachelor-level areas such as classification, cataloguing, reference service, library management and ICT). Keep a steady slice for the 50 General Knowledge marks. The notice gives no detailed GK breakup, so general awareness and current affairs are your safest bet.
