Detailed Official Notification & Guidelines
Railway ALP aspirants have waited a long time for this, so let's start with what has changed this week.
RRB has fixed CBT 1 for CEN 01/2026 on 3, 4 and 5 November 2026, with three shifts a day. The notice for the exam city slip is dated 23 October. The link opens from 24 October for candidates whose exam is on 3 November, and the later dates follow day by day. So if you log in and see a message that the slip isn't live for your application yet, don't panic. Your turn just hasn't come.
CITY SLIP IS NOT THE ADMIT CARD
This trips up a lot of people every cycle. The city slip only tells you your exam city, date and shift, so you can plan travel and book tickets in time. SC/ST candidates also get their travel authority through it. The actual admit card (e-call letter), with your centre and reporting time, comes about four days before your exam. Nothing is posted to your home.
HOW TO CHECK YOUR CITY SLIP
- Open the website of the RRB you applied to. Each RRB has its own portal.
- Click the ALP CEN 01/2026 exam city slip link.
- Log in with your Registration Number and Date of Birth.
- Note your city, date and shift, then save the PDF.
If your application status looks wrong, check it first on rrbapply.gov.in. The revised application status was released on 14 October.
THE POST AT A GLANCE
There are 11,127 Assistant Loco Pilot posts across the RRBs. Pay is Level 2, starting at Rs. 19,900 basic (scale Rs. 19,900 to Rs. 63,200), plus allowances. Age was counted as on 1 July 2026: 18 to 30 years for General and EWS candidates, with the usual extra years for OBC and SC/ST.
Qualification is Class 10 with an ITI in a listed trade, or Class 10 with a diploma in mechanical, electrical, electronics or automobile engineering, or a BE/B.Tech in those branches.
HOW SELECTION WORKS
You first clear CBT 1, then CBT 2 and the CBAT aptitude test, followed by document verification and a medical. Several prep sites say CBT 2 and CBAT are now weighted equally in the final merit. Please confirm that in the notification before you plan your preparation around it.
ABOUT THE FEE
General, OBC and EWS candidates paid Rs. 500, and Rs. 400 comes back after you appear in CBT 1. Others paid Rs. 250, which is refunded in full after CBT 1. Bank charges are deducted from refunds.
A PRACTICAL TIP
Download your city slip the day it appears and screenshot your shift timing. When the admit card arrives, compare both. If something doesn't match, contact your RRB early instead of waiting for exam day.
